Amazing Pound Cake Story: The Blessing of a Mistake

As I come to the end of every holiday season, I am always amazed that hundreds of pound cakes arrive on time at their appointed destinations. What a wonder! But this Christmas, a real miracle happened when one pound cake ended up in the wrong place.

As one of my wonderful customers was typing up several addresses of friends and family that were to receive pound cakes, she mistyped one number. Instead of a 7, she typed a 5. The cake shipped, and a few days later I got a phone call from an older gentleman saying he had received a box for somebody else, but with his address on it. What should he do? It was late on a Friday and not much could be done, so I told him that it was his lucky day -- that he should keep the cake and enjoy it.

A few days later I got this email, which brought tears to my eyes. God is just so good!

Dear Sharon Crow:
My wife and I want to thank you for the very good pound cake that landed on our doorstep by mistake.
We’re sorry the other folks didn’t get their cake. But we sure enjoyed it.
My wife is 82 and has Alzheimer’s. I’m 88 and her caregiver.
I’m not very good at cooking especially desserts.
But we sure had a good dessert this Christmas. Thank you.
